Family Bible Verse of the Month (FBVM) Posted 10.07.2013

Life is so busy!  All we want is a little peace and quiet!  At the end of a busy day what do you do to help your soul quiet down?  TV?  Internet?  Netflix?  Book?

Project 1012 (equipping parents to disciple their children by living with integrity in your home) is introducing to you the best way to quiet your soul.  Ps 46:10 says "Cease striving and know that I am God."  See also Ps 62.

The Bible says that rest and peace come from meditating on what is good and right and ultimately, that is God's Word.  Phil 4:4ff says that we are to rejoice in the Lord, pray, and "dwell on" what is good and right.  If you practice these things the God of peace will be with you.

My desire is to show you to way of peace and to equip you as parents to bring peace to your family.  To do this P1012 is introducing the Family Bible Verse of the Month!  We are encouraging you as a family to memorize the FBVM.  Image taking the whole month to work on just one Bible passage as a family.  Then they whole family can check each other, help each other, and converse about the relevance of the passage along with any insights you might have.  If fathers and mothers take the lead and model this for their children they can help establish a healthy spiritual pattern in the the life of their family.  It is the goal of the culture (and the Enemy) to destroy the family.  Yet God wants to see the family unit grow strong to the glory of His praise.  Check out this video introduction.

A few benefits of Bible memory...
- allows for meditation ("dwell on," think about, consider, ponder)  Josh 1:8; Ps 1; Ps 63:6-8.  (To make memorization meaningful learn to meditate.  If meditation does not coincide with memorization then is becomes a fruitless burden.  But if mediation accompanies memorization you will experience joy, power, peace, and rest!)

- Meditation leads to insight (how these words impact me and influence how I see the world, my situation, my self, others, and God.

- Meditation also provides language for prayer and worship.  Pray God's words. "Father thank you that while I was still a sinner that Christ died for me."  "Father you are my Rock and my fortress, an ever-present help in time of trouble."

Now I know you (or your children) receive many Bible verses to memorize throughout the week and month (Sunday school, Breakout, etc.) but this is a verse that the whole family can memorize.  I don't want you to neglect these other Bible verses since children are more than capable of memorizing them all.  However the FBVM is for the whole family and meant to build unity in the family, foster conversation, and equip parents to be the disciple-makers in their home.

The Family Verse of the Month for Oct 2013 is Proverbs 3:5-6.  If you have little children they can just work on verse 5 or verse 6.

Proverbs 3:5–6
Trust in the LORD with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.
