New Leadership for Student Ministries Posted 12.11.2012

With the resignation of Pastor Jeff Jamba, and his departure in early January, the Board of Elders is very pleased to announce the hiring of Daniel Parkins as a temporary pastor of student ministries.  Daniel’s responsibilities will be to oversee the ministry to junior high, high school, and college students.  The position is full time and we have made a commitment to him through June 2013.  We will seek the wisdom of God over these next six months as we move toward a more permanent solution.

Daniel Parkins is a somewhat familiar face here at Peninsula, as he spoke in August during the Bombo Medical Clinic.  He shared the story of his own struggle with health, and the role of prayer in that struggle.  Dan loves Jesus. And he believes passionately that it isn't cheesy to say it. He loves his wife, his three children here, and his one child in heaven, and loves to write. He also like Cheese Doritos but those aren't very good for his liver. He is passionate for God's glory!!

In his own words, Daniel describes his journey with God like this:  I have had three liver transplants, had my large intestine removed, lost our son at the age of 19 days, and experienced a host of other medical issues. Throughout it all, I have seen God’s glory revealed in trying times and wonderful times, and am excited to share God’s love to a hurting world. I was raised in a Christian home, committed my life to Christ in Junior High, and made Christ King and Lord of my life my Freshmen year in College at Point Loma Nazarene University. I have done my best to read extensively, and cherish a high view of God’s sovereignty in everything.

Daniel brings a deep passion for God with him to Peninsula, and can’t wait to get started making his mark in our lives.  He has had ministerial experience at:  Emmanuel Faith Community Church in Escondido, Southwest Community Church in Indian Wells, Rolling Hills Covenant Church in Rolling Hills Estates, and Kings Harbor in Torrance.  He comes with packed resume, but more importantly, a heart hungry for God and in love with the work He is doing at Peninsula.

He has published the following books (he’s been doing a bit of writing in the past year!):

Daydreams, an end to my nightmares - November 2006

We Have Hope, Finding the Anchor for our Souls - August 2012

In Your Element, Living Heavenly Minded on Earth - August 2012

The Remnant Path, a Discipleship Tool for Warriors on the Way - August 2012

Revive, Renewing Life through Radical Repentance - August 2012

Daydreams (revised), Prevailing Faith through the Nightmares of life - August 2012

Nineteen Days, Wrestling with God through the Death of my son - March 2013

The Right Anger, Rekindling Holy Violence in our Pursuit of God - September 2012

Daniel lives in Torrance with his wife, Kelly, and their three children, Noah, (5), Mia, (4), and Christian (9 mos).  Kelly works part time as a dental hygienist in Torrance.  Please pray for God’s wisdom in these days of transition ahead.
